Socialsm or Capitalism? Empty
PostSubject: Socialsm or Capitalism?   Socialsm or Capitalism? EmptySeptember 19th 2008, 5:41 pm

As you know, Socialists and Capitalists had a conflict on the mid XX century: The Cold War, between Soviet Russia and the US.

First: What is socialism?

Socialism refers to a broad array of ideologies and political movements with the goal of a socio-economic system in which property and the distribution of wealth are subject to control by the community. This control may be either exercised through popular collectives such as workers' councils or on behalf of the people by the state. As an economic system, socialism is often characterized by state, worker, or community ownership of the means of production, goals which have been attributed to, and claimed by, a number of political parties and governments.

The modern socialist movement largely originated in the late–19th century working class movement. During this period, the term "socialism" was first used by European social critics, who spoke against capitalism and private property. Karl Marx, who helped establish and define the modern socialist movement, wrote that socialism would be achieved through class struggle and a proletarian revolution, it being the transitional stage between capitalism and communism Marxism has had a lasting influence on most branches of socialism.

Second: What is capitalism?

Capitalism is the economic system in which the means of production are owned by private persons, and operated for profit and where investments, distribution, income, production and pricing of goods and services are predominantly determined through the operation of a free market.Capitalism is usually considered to involve the right of individuals and corporations to trade, incorporate, employ workers, and use money, in goods, services (including finance), labor and land. By definition, production and distribution in a capitalist system are governed by the free market rather than state regulation, though this does not exclude the state defining and enforcing the basic rules of the market and may include the provision of a few basic public goods and infrastructure. Classic unrestrained capitalism is currently confined to theory, as "all of the capitalistic societies of the West have mixed economies that temper capitalism" with interventionist government regulation and social programs.

Now give your opinion:

Which system do you think is the best and why?

(Sorry for being abscent, quite stressing days!)

In my opinion, Socialism is better, because income and economic matters are in jurisdiction of the community. However, Capitalism shows as an efficient system.

Let's take for example Central America... In the XIX century, the most country like Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador based it's economy in coffee-producing lands. Costa Rica didn't follow its "brothers", but based it's economy in small private lands instead of coffe producing lands. And that showed to be efficient, because exploiting farmers wasn't needed, because of the size of privatized lands.

The economy of the other countries evolved, still with the "phantom" of the Feudal-Colonial System.

For efficiency, socialism is better, but I feel it takes some freedom away.

In capitalism, if you work hard, you get more money than everyone.

However, in socialism with won't happen.

But it also depends on what the country produces, and how the social and economical matters are managed in the government.

It also depends on the country's alphabetization level.

For example, our country has a very low level, then capitalism is better, because smartest people will get more land and economy would be better.

If we had socialism, we'd be even worse. Because ignorants would have land, but they would waste it.
