Learning to Fall

Learning to Fall is a story about Zack Fair, a character from FFVII: Crisis Core. In this he's turned into a wolf after a battle with a strange summon.

This is a preview of one of the later chapters, just to test the waters a bit and see what people (or Daniel, considering you and I are the only ones ever here) think of it.

"He's grown," Genesis noted over the top of his book.

Angeal gazed at his companion with a furrowed brow. "Really? I hadn't noticed."

Genesis' lips curled into a smile. "Last time I saw you he could barely reach your knees, now you could probably sit on him."

It was true, where Zack once stood at Angeal's knees, he now easily reached his waist and was about as tall as Genesis if he stood on his hind legs. A massive change to say the least.

Zack let out a bark of his approval and grinned (or grinned as best a wolf can) at Genesis. "I can finally get you back for all those insults about my size." his tongue fell happily out of his mouth at the thought.

It wasn't that he didn't like the auburn haired SOLDIER, but no one insulted Zack Fair and got away with it, regardless of whether they were right or not.

It's interesting.

I'd read it without knowing the characters. I can do a little search and find out who they are.

You don't really need to know about it, the story should explain it all.

Actually, I've been writing this one for some time now. I've got the general idea and a good portion of the beginning.

Okay, here it comes. Keep in mind, I'm still working out the kinks in the beginning and it's subject to changes. Other than that, enjoy.

Zack grinned devilishly and drew his sword, the large blade being held effortlessly within his grasp — you got used to the weight eventually. "Heh, it's been a while." the man before him growled lowly in his throat, sending him an unseen glare from beneath his helmet; he wore heavy armor, slightly baggy pants and donned a large helmet on his head, which obscured all his features but his mouth. This man was from the Crescent Unit in Wutai, their elite forces.

"Zack Fair, SOLDIER 1st Class," he drawled, a thick Wutanian accent present in his voice. "You'll die for what you did to Wutai!"

The raven-haired teen sighed and twirled his sword in his grip, eyeing the wickedly sharp spear held in the Wutanian soldier's hand with a bored look. "What was his name?" Zack said to himself, tapping his chin in thought. "Oh, Ventus, right?"

"Tch. You're correct," Ventus scoffed — he was rather annoyed with the civil way Zack talked to him, considering they were suppose to be fighting to the death.

"Well, Ventus, I'm afraid that I can't die yet," Zack stated. "Y'see, I have a spiky-haired chocobo waiting at home for me."

Ventus quivered with anger and ground his teeth roughly together — this SOLDIER had some nerve to disregard him in such a way, it was an insult to his pride, something he took very seriously; he could practically hear the other members of the Crescent Unit laughing at him from this hiding spot. He would pay the teenager back for that.

With a roar, Ventus launched himself at Zack; his spear was pointed at him, glinting in the sunlight.

"Today is the day you die, Fair!"

Zack leapt back instinctively, blocking the mad slice with the sharpened edge of the Buster Sword.

*Dies* I'm so depressed right now, I spent a good hour or two writing up the newer part of it, then the internet goes and craps out in the midst of saving it.

On another note, this is still bugging me. The people of Wutai, who are essentially FFVII's Japan(ese), are confusing. I'm not sure whether it should be 'Wutainian', 'Wutanian' or (the one I prefer, yet am told is wrong) 'Wutainese'.

Nah, it's cool. I'm just glad you like it.

This is where I run into trouble though. I suck at action scenes, they become long and annoying. I'm debating whether or not to cut the battle out.

Try to make an awesome action scene, or just do as you want to.

Hm. I'll try my hand, but I think I'll just cut it out.

Don't worry, I'll give you a prosthesis.
